Ordnance Survey turn their hand to mapping out the national curriculum
Ordnance Survey have been behind a recent transition by schools UK wide to help have GIS become part of the national curriculum within both GCSE and A-Level Geography. Ordnance Survey and ESRI have both invested time and resources in bringing GIS into education mainstream and this is a major milestone for the industry.
Lecturers at Universities specialising in GIS are thoroughly pleased with the announcement knowing that this will not only increase exposure of the courses but lead to better prepared students allowing for the degrees to be packed with more detail.
Ordnance Survey did however highlight one issue with the proposed plan which was the lack of systems available to hold the technology. The lack of resources the Ordnance Survey say will be the only limiting factor in GIS being a mainstream topic.
Watch this space for the highly skilled GIS graduates of the future!
